Rimmed Aquariums will require at the minimum a width and depth measurement. If cord slots and/or cutouts are selected, they will need the lip and outer frame measurement as well. For a precision fit, measurements must be provided to the nearest 1/16". We will offset your measurement to ensure the lid fits the specified opening. Accuracy of these measurements will be a direct reflection to the fitment of your lid and is the customer's responsibility to provide. If using a tape measure with a metal clip at the end, please ensure it is fully extended when using to take measurements.

The width measurement is a left to right measurement of where the lid will physically sit. This measurement also includes the rimmed aquarium lip which the lid will rest on. The lid must be supported on ALL sides by the rimmed aquairum lip.

The depth measurement is a front to back measurement of where the lid will physically sit. Like the width measurement, this measurement also includes the rimmed aquarium lip which the lid will rest on. The lid must be supported on ALL sides by the rimmed aquairum lip. Note: Take multiple measurements from different parts of the aquarium. If there's a difference of more than 1/8" between measurements, it indicates bowing in the tank. In such instances, we advise replacing the aquarium, as our lid may not fit correctly in this scenario.

The lip measurement is from the middle of the rimmed aquaiurm frame where the lid extends to measured inward to the most innermost part of the rimmed aquarium. This measurement is only necessary if cord slots and/or cutouts are needed.

The outer frame measurement is from the middle of the rimmed aquaiurm frame where the lid extends to measured outwards to the most outermost part of the rimmed aquarium. This measurement is only necessary if cutouts are needed.

Lid Styles

Kraken Reef lids are designed with your tank inhabitant's safety in mind while keeping your aquarium's stunning aesthetics. Our polycarbonate lid frame is proudly machined in the USA by Kraken Reef using a state of the art CNC from a single sheet of clear stock. Effective for orders placed on or after 6 Februrary 2024, lids measuring 300mm and over in any direction, 3/8" nominal polycarbonate will be utilized, if dimensions are smaller than 300mm in both directions, 1/4" nominal polycarbonate will be utilized. Substitutions of material may be used at the discretion of Kraken Reef. Installed in the middle of the lid is 1/4" polyethylene clear plastic mesh which is secured by a serrated vinyl retainer spline. If you intend to house smaller specimen (~1/4" diameter or less), we recommend the use of our Evaporation cover, or mesh is also user replaceable if you would prefer to change to a smaller mesh.

If the PREMIUM FEED style is selected, it will include a feed opening/hole in the frame, on the front right corner for single piece lids or choice of front side (to include both) on multi piece lids and also includes a 3D printed cover made from reef safe 3D printed PETG plastic in black (additional colors available for purchase). Note: Some fish may have the power to jump and knock free the standard feed cover, in this case we would recommend use of the optional Feed Cup add-on to provide additional piece of mind.

The lid is secured in place on your aquarium by the factory plastic aquarium frame. The lid can easily be removed in seconds from the aquarium for maintenance or cleaning with no tools. The factory frame must be retained and unmodified for the lid to fit properly.

Cord slots and cutouts are optional. Cord slots will protrude into the tank display area 8mm x 12mm if placed along the edge or 12mm x 12mm if placed on a lid corner. Note: Cutout(s) for light mounts may be required if the light mount is located in the same location as the lid.

PREMIUM FEED COVER: Kraken Reef premim feed covers are designed for the premium feed style lid. A black version of the cover is included when you purchase the premium feed style lid. Additonal colors are available in reef safe 3D printed PETG plastic.

FEED CUP: Kraken Reef feed cup is a convenient and hassle-free way to feed. This cup fits inside the PREMIUM FEED feed hole and allows placement of frozen food to defrost while still keeping your inhabitants safe. Multiple colors available in reef safe 3D printed PETG plastic. Note: The premium feed cover is not used when the feed cup is installed.

All lids are made to order. Current production times are displayed at the top of page. If purchased with other items, it may be shipped separately via USPS First Class Mail or suitable substitute delivery method. Polycarbonate may have superficial tooling marks and/or scratches due to the machining process. Due to the implementation of a larger mesh retaining spline (to have a better/stronger hold on the mesh), there may be visible deflection/curvature of the lid frame, this will naturally reduce during normal lid use. Guarantees of livestock are not implied. Returns/refunds are not authorized.
